Scattered Oats Stitch

Scattered Oats Stitch

Non - Reversible
Multiples of 4 + 1
photo shows DK weight, size 6 needles
swatch is 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches, 33 stitches, 40 rows

This stitch provides an interesting textural pattern that is a lot easier to knit than it appears. Instead of using a cable holder, it's very easy for the Right Cross to just knit the third stitch first, then knit the first two and slip them all off and for the Left Cross, knit from the back into stitch two and three, then knit the first and slip them all off.

The fabric doesn't have much drape, do to all the criss-crossing of stitches, but is a nice weight for most sweaters. It wouldn't be bad as a scarf. Though non reversible, the reverse side has an interesting purl design.

Chart Instructions

Cast on multilples of 4 + 1 stitches

Row 1 (rs): (k2, slip wyib, k1) _x, k1
Row 2 (ws): p1 (p1, slip wyif, p2) to end of row
Row 3 (rs): (1/2rc, k1) _x, k1
Row 4 (ws): purl
Row 5 (rs): (k2, slip wyib, k1) _x, k1
Row 6 (ws): p1 (p1, slip wyif, p2) to end of row
Row 7 (rs): k1 (k1, 1/2lc) to end of row
Row 8 (ws): purl

*Repeat either the 8 rows until your desired length, or Repeat the 8 rows + the first 4 rows. Hopefully you can reach the length desired within a 4 row spread.

Happy Knitting
